Let's start with the pros.

It covers replacement expenses
A private renewable maintenance policy covers certain renewable expenses that home insurance doesn't.

It covers (some) expenses

And now for the cons - and there's a big one:

The cost
This will be a real problem if you're renewable system is in poor health and don't have any kind of renewable coverage. Usually, individual renewable policies can cost around a few pounds a month or some thousand depending on the length.
